The Meal Ministry Assistant supports the daily operation of Refuge of Hope’s Community Meal Ministry, helping provide nutritious meals in a safe, welcoming, and Christ-centered environment. This position assists with food preparation, meal service, volunteer coordination, and kitchen operations while helping ensure every guest is treated with dignity and care.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, preparing, serving, and cleaning up nine community meals each week.
  • Help supervise, train, and encourage volunteers serving in the Meal Ministry.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient commercial kitchen.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
  • Help create a welcoming, safe, and respectful environment for guests, volunteers, and staff.
  • Support other Meal Ministry and organizational needs as assigned.
  • Demonstrate Refuge of Hope’s mission, vision, and Christian values in every interaction.

Special Requirements

Must have a demonstrated commitment and adherence to understanding and implementing the mission, vision, core values, and philosophies of Refuge of Hope, a strong commitment to serve homeless, hungry, and those living in poverty and be able to professionally represent Refuge of Hope in a variety of settings and diverse communities.

Required Physical Functions

  • Stand for extended periods
  • Lift up to 50 pounds
  • Read, hear, and communicate effectively
  • Work safely in a fast-paced commercial kitchen environment

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance if operating a vehicle on behalf of Refuge of Hope
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community members

Preferred

  • ServSafe Certification
  • Experience preparing food for large groups
  • Previous experience in commercial food service, hospitality, or nonprofit ministry

Required Education

• HS diploma or GED
