Refuge of Hope is preparing to open a new Women’s Emergency Homeless Shelter, and we are looking for compassionate, dependable, and mission-minded individuals to join our team for day, afternoon/evening, overnight, and weekend full or part-time shifts. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of women who are facing homelessness and difficult circumstances.

Available Shifts:

Tuesday- Friday: 2pm-10pm

Monday- Thursday: 9p-7am

Friday- Sunday: 9p-9am

Saturday-Monday: 2pm-10pm

Saturday- Sunday: 7am- 3pm

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the daily operation of the shelter during shifts. Help maintain a safe, clean, orderly, welcoming, and Christ-centered environment and assist residents with routine needs and concerns.
  • Work under the direction of the Women’s Shelter Director. Follow established policies, procedures, schedules, and direction from the Director. Communicate significant resident, safety, behavioral, or operational concerns to the Director in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a caring, Christ-Centered environment. Model love, grace, and compassion. Help create an environment where women feel safe, valued, respected, and encouraged toward hope, healing, and independence.
  • Meet one-on-one with assigned residents to provide encouragement, support, accountability, and assistance throughout their stay. Help identify needs, encourage progress toward individual goals, and connect residents with appropriate resources and services.
  • Follow and support shelter policies and procedures. Help ensure resident expectations, safety procedures, and shelter rules are followed consistently. Bring policy concerns, conflicts, or behavioral issues to the attention of the Director or designated supervisor.
  • Respond appropriately to resident concerns and emergencies. Use sound judgment, compassion, and de-escalation skills when appropriate. Follow established emergency procedures and promptly notify the Director or designated supervisor of significant incidents.
  • Assist with the cleanliness and daily functioning of the shelter. Help maintain common areas, resident areas, bathrooms, laundry areas, and other assigned spaces. Assist with laundry, supplies, meals, and other routine operational duties as assigned.
  • Complete required documentation. Accurately complete shift reports, resident notes, incident reports, and other required documentation. Maintain confidentiality and ensure information is communicated appropriately to the Director and incoming staff.
  • Maintain professional communication and teamwork. Provide appropriate information during shift changes and communicate concerns that require follow-up.
  • Maintain flexibility in scheduling.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Women’s Shelter Director.

Special Requirements

  • Must be able to address difficult situations with wisdom, compassion, patience.
  • Must be comfortable assisting with Bible studies, prayer, devotions, and other faith-based activities consistent with Refuge of Hope’s mission.
  • Must have a demonstrated commitment and adherence to understanding and implementing the mission, vision, core values, and philosophies of Refuge of Hope, a strong commitment to serve homeless, hungry, and those living in poverty and be able to professionally represent Refuge of Hope in a variety of settings and diverse communities.

Required Skills

  • Must be comfortable working independently and demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Must demonstrate strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Must be able to handle confidential information with discretion and maintain appropriate professional boundaries with residents, staff, volunteers, and visitors.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and insurance.

Preferred 

  • Experience in social services, nonprofit organizations, homelessness, poverty, addiction, mental health, domestic violence, trauma, or other services supporting women in crisis.
